Antoine "Tony" Melanson
MELANSON, ANTOINE J. “TONY” - 1925 - 2011 - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Antoine J. “Tony” Melanson, 86, of Moncton, NB, on Wednesday, April 20th, 2011 at the Moncton Hospital. Born January 12th, 1925 in Scoudouc, NB, he was the son of the late Alyre and the late Agnes (née: Babin) Melanson. Mr. Melanson served in the Canadian Army with the Signal Corp and C.O.T.C., afterward, worked a lifetime in sales in Detroit, Ontario and the Maritimes. He had a passion for woodworking and carpentry, enjoyed the Friday morning newspaper crossword and also took great pleasure having coffee with his many friends at Hynes Restaurant. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Thérèse (née: Lavoie); three daughters: Antoinette Melanson and Joanne (Jean) Caissie, both of Moncton and Gisele (Alain Bourassa) of Louiseville, QC: one son, Pierre (Joan) of Grand-Barachois; six grandchildren: Mélanie, Mathieu, Kristine, Patrick, Martin and Mathieu; one great grandson, James as well as several nieces and nephews. Antoine was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Beside his parents, Alyre and Agnes, he was predeceased by his step mother, Melina (née: Belliveau); two sisters: Albina and Lorette and also by three brothers: Clément, Alphonse and Edgar.
Respecting Tony’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be celebrated from the Chartersville Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, April 26th, 2011 at 10:30 am. Interment in St-Jacques-le-Majeur parish cemetery, Scoudouc, NB. Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to thank Dr. John Li for caring and to the employees and nursing staff of Unit 4600 at the Moncton Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Antoine.
