Carpenter Donald Joseph It is with heavy hearts that we say good bye to a husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Donnie passed away suddenly on October 18th, 2017 at the QEII Halifax. He was born in1935 in Dundas, Ontario to Clayton and Frances Carpenter. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and was stationed in Halifax where he met and married the love of his life Georgina (Gaudet) with whom he enjoyed a rich and wonderful life for 61 years. After five years in the Navy he moved his family back to Dundas to work in the family Electrical Construction business with his brother Ken. Georgina longed for home (NS) so Donnie accepted a job with Michelin Tire Canada where he retired after 20 years. Donnie believed in giving back, he worked with the Sea Cadets, belonged to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 16, The New Horizons and The 55 Club. After retirement he spent his winters in Florida where he became an excellent Shuffler participating in many Leagues and Tournaments throughout Florida. Donnie enjoyed curling, shuffling, card games, reading, and Nascar, but the other love of his life was the many years he spent sailing in the Northumberland Strait. Donnie is survived by his wife Georgina, son Joe (Loretta) New Glasgow, daughter Shelly Halifax, grandchildren Jason, Kelly (Steve), and Lindsay, great granddaughter Madison, brother Edward, Troy, Ontario and sister-in-law Shirley, Dundas Ontario and many nieces and nephews . He also leaves behind cherished nieces Donna and Laura. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Ken and sister-in-law Mert. Thank you to the staff at the QEII for their support during his brief stay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dialysis unit, 222 Haliburton Road, P. O. Box 1059, Pictou, N.S. B0K 2A0. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held on Monday followed by burial in St Paul's Cemetery.
