Silver, Bertha Christena 84 of Goldboro, Guysborough County passed away on the foggy morning of November 26th, 2017, in the sincere care of the staff of Valley View Villa, Riverton. Bertha was born in Guysborough on October 5, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lexi (Worth) Gosbee, (Roachvale). Bertha is survived by sons, James “Jim”, Goldboro; William “Bill” (Doretta), Westville; daughter, Rose Ann (Marcel) Riverview, NB; grandchildren, Aaron (Sonya), Williamswood; Darrel (Melanie Turcotte), Dartmouth; Melanie (Steven Temchuk), Dartmouth; sister, Stella McLeod Westville; brother, Victor (Ruby), Eastern Passage; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Stanford Silver; sister, Margaret Zwicker; brothers, John, William “Bill”, George in infancy; brothers-in-law, Gordon McLeod and Murray Zwicker. If you asked Bertha what she was, she would say "housewife". But if you asked her family, they would say “mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, caregiver, disciplinarian “and not just to her own kids”, farmer, gardener, cook, fire stoker, wood splitter, hard working, strong, “in spirit, strength and heart”, humorous with a quick wit, teacher and a no guff kind of woman”. She would tell you when you were wrong or when you were right, she was never one for hiding her true feelings in good times and bad. Bertha was also a Sunday School Teacher and had belonged to the Canadian Girls in Training church group. She was an animal lover, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and flower gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA. Bertha's family would like to thank the staff at Valley View Villa for the care they have shown Bertha over the years and their support, kindness and gentle attention during her final days. Visitation and funeral service was held Wednesday, November 29, 2017 in G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, Country Harbour with Lewis MacIntosh officiating. Committal in Bayview Cemetery, Goldboro.
