BARKER, CHARLES DOUGLAS "DOUG" - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Charles (Douglas) S. Barker on May 11, 2011 at the DECH. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Oliver); his girls, Jocelyn Hinchey (Dan) of Halifax, NS and Susan Barker-Voisine (Dean) of Maple Ridge, BC; his grandchildren, Ashlee and D. Bradley Hinchey, Emily and Sophia Barker-Voisine and his great-granddaughter, Rhian Hinchey. He is also survived by his sister, Eleanor Donaldson of Renfrew, ON. Doug was born in Fredericton on July 18, 1932 to Alfred and Audrey (Horwood) Barker. He was employed with NB Power for over 30 years until his retirement in 1993. He was Past Master of the Alexandria Lodge of Fredericton, a Luxor Shriner and a life member of the Royal Arch Masons. Doug will be remembered for his appreciation of literature and in particular for his love and great knowledge of history. He will also be remembered for his compassionate nature and love of animals.
Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York St., on Saturday, May 14th, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service will take place at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Sunday, May 15th at 2:30 pm with The Ven. John Sharpe officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or the Lung Association of New Brunswick.
