Donald "Don" Haley

Lieu de naissance : Somerset

Lieu de décès : Berwick, Canada
Date de décès : 16 mars 2018

HALEY, Donald Richard “Don” - Age 87, of Berwick, Kings Co., passed away peacefully, surrounded with love, on Friday, March 16, 2018 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Somerset, he was the son of the late Richard and Leila (Welner) Haley. Don was a kind and gentle man, with a wonderful gift of gab and a delightful sense of humor. He worked at many jobs in his lifetime, including Berwick Bakery, Moody Brothers, Mail Delivery, Orderly at Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre and as a surveyor and dispatcher with the Department of Highways. Don and Louise worked very hard to provide for their four daughters and we continue to be ever grateful for the work ethic and love instilled through their great examples. He loved sports and still to this day is remembered as ‘Rocket Haley’ from his youthful hockey days. He played baseball as well and loved his ‘Red Sox’! Other than his love for his family, Don’s greatest legacy was his amazing self-taught art at being a Square Dance Caller and teacher to so many people in Berwick and surrounding communities. We well remember dashing to the basement of our house so that he could practice each new routine. Four girls with pretend partners! Don was very proud of his three dance clubs: The Berwick Belles and Beaus, The Welsford Rainbow Dancers and The Kentville Haley Dancers. He was blessed with a unique ability to not just sing the calls but to figure out and fix the whole room when dancers messed up! And always, there was laughter, fun and friendship. There is no question that our Dad was truly one of a kind. We will forever be comforted with our beautiful memories. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Robin Bustin and to the incredibly wonderful staff and friends at Grand View Manor, who gave our father the best of care in a supportive and loving way. Don is survived by his daughters, Donna Haley (Dale Starratt), Morden; Debbie Hayden (Sam), Lake George; Cindy Haley Robichaud (Jay), New Minas; and Sharon Long (Gerald) Port Williams; niece, Betty (Bill) Woodworth; 11 grandchildren: Julie, Scott, Adam and Jill Johnson, Ric Hayden, Heidi Hayden-Buchanan, Chelsey Robichaud, Haley, Chris, Jenna and Michelle Long; 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by the love of his life, our mother, Louise, Dad’s precious Weesie, (Hutt) Haley in 2003; brother, Earle Haley; infant sister, Annie. Cremation has taken place and by request there will be no visitation or funeral. There will be a private graveside service at a later date in Berwick Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Ross Unit, Grand View Manor, in memory of Don Haley. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, Middleton, N.S., B0S 1P0, toll free 1-855-825-3448.
