ATWOOD, Charles Clifford, age 89 of Port Maitland, passed away December 18, 2018 in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born March 20,1929, he was a son to the late Ernest and Georgina (Stewart) Atwood. Charles was a family man who loved his family dearly. At the age of 15 he started his working career at Cosmo Imperial Mill. A butcher by trade, Charles was also dedicated to his work as a caretaker for Riverside Cemetery in Hebron during his 50 years of service. He was in the Army Reserves, a member of the Riverside Cemetery Committee and a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his hobby farm and rabbit hunting. In the later years he enjoyed his drives to Mavillette Beach to watch the waves and his evening outings with Larry and Susan to see how many deer they could count. Charles is survived by six children, Barbara Ann Surette (Joey), Susan Goodwin (Larry), Charles Atwood Jr. (Cindy), Kathy Bishara (Tom), all of Yarmouth; Debbie Landers (Peter), Halifax; Tim Atwood (Genevieve), Ottawa; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister Lois Gordon (George), Ontario. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his wife Barbara; son in law Joey; sister Margorie Brannen; brothers Ernest, Curtis and David; great grandson Ashton Goodwin died in infancy. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Thursday from 7-9 pm in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service was Friday at 10 am also in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Mike Cannell officiated. Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery, Hebron. Memorial donations may be made to the Tri County VON or the Riverside Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
