HAZELTON, Verna Ann – age 84, of Nakile Home for Special Care and formerly of Pembroke, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on December 23, 2018 at Nakile Home for Special Care. Born in Lower Melbourne, Yarmouth Co., N.S. on June 24, 1934 she was a daughter of the late Melvin and Eva (Muise) Harrington. Verna was a member of Saint Ambrose Co-Cathedral in Yarmouth and member of the Seniors 50+ Club. She was employed at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital for 18 years as part of the housekeeping staff. She is survived by her daughters, Judy Deveau, Yarmouth; Nancy Langille, Bridgewater; son, Scott Hazelton, Pleasant Valley; sister, Virginia Doucette, Tusket; grandchildren, Dianne, Rhonda, Matthew, Sarah, Lucas; and great grandchildren, Owen, Gage, Abu and Emma. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Walter; sons, Joseph, Glen; daughter, Elizabeth in infancy; brothers, Stillman and Oliver; and sister, Christine Cottreau. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 7-9 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral mass took place Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10 A.M. from Saint Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to the Arthritis Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
