Mary Agnes Hickman
August 14, 1924 – January 11, 2019
Mary Agnes Hickman, late of Prince Albert, SK, died peacefully on January 11, 2019 at Good Shepherd Villas in Prince Albert. Mary was born in Dublin, Ontario on August 14, 1924 to Margaret and Malachi Feeney. She married Raymond Hickman in 1951. Their daughter, Donna, was born in 1954. Mary and Ray lived in London, Ontario until his untimely death in 1959 at age 39. In 1959, she and her daughter relocated to Saskatoon, where she worked as a Lab Assistant for many years at the Medical Cancer Research Building at the University of Saskatchewan. At retirement she then moved to Prince Albert to be near her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Mary was a devout Catholic with a special love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. In times of difficulty in her life she said the rosary and also Novenas. She was an avid bowler who enjoyed the fellowship of the staff and her bowling buddies at Minto Bowl. She bowled four times per week for many years and ceased bowling at 91 years of age. She loved dogs, especially “Socks and Keeva”. She enjoyed playing Kaiser and Canasta. Mary is survived by her daughter: Donna (Terry) Malone; her grandchildren: Kelly (David Jaspar) Malone, Colleen (Matt McKee) Malone and Robbie (Jen Parenteau) Malone; great-grandchildren: Callum, Cecilia, Braeden and Keira; her brother: Fergus (Marion) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by: her husband: Raymond; her brothers: Gerald and Michael; her sister: Loretta; her sisters-in-law: Edith, Lori and Dorothy; and her brothers-in-law: Oscar, Percy and Bev. Special thanks to the following people for the enormous kindness shown to my Mom: Dr. Gordon Surkan, her landlord/landladies for many years: Eva Michayluk, Darryl Michayluk (deceased), and Angie Johnson, Tracy Anderson, Lila and Maurice Happ, Pat and Fred Chapman (deceased), and the Staff and her bowling buddies from Minto bowl. A huge thank you to Pat Chuey, the Staff and all of Mom’s friends at Good Shepherd Villas for the care, kindness and love she experienced from 2016 to the present. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at St. Marks Parish, 589 9th St E, with Father Jim Kaptein as Celebrant. Interment will follow the lunch at Crystal Springs Roman Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of Mary may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
