Leo Samuel Keough

Lieu de naissance : Sydney, Nouvelle Ecosse
Date de naissance : 3 août 1924

Lieu de décès : Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Date de décès : 22 janvier 2019

Leo Samuel Keough, age 94, passed away on January 22, 2019 in Hamilton, Ontario, after a brief illness. He was born on August 3, 1924 in Sydney and was the eldest son of Andrew Joseph Keough and Hannah Mary (Ryan) Keough of Whitney Pier.
Leo was predeceased by his wife, Monica (Moffatt) Keough in 1999, and his son, Leo Samuel Keough, Jr. in 2007. He deeply mourned their loss but has now been joyfully reunited with them.
He leaves behind many who were touched by his unfailing gentleness and kindness, which he demonstrated even when faced with the diagnosis of terminal illness. “He touched many of us here…we won’t soon forget him” was the doctor’s message to Leo’s family.
Leo was proud of his service to his country, serving in the Merchant Navy in the Second World War. His family shares that pride, knowing that as a young man of eighteen, he was already honing the sense of duty that was later exhibited as he worked to support his wife and children as a Millwright Mechanic for the General Mills Corporation. After the birth of his first two children, Leo and Monica had relocated to the Brampton, Ontario area in order to seek greater opportunities for their growing family. They took every possible opportunity to visit “down east” to introduce their children to their extended family, and to reconnect with those left behind.
Survivors include Leo’s brother, Danny (Sydney); sister, Lenora (Glace Bay) and children, Mary Keough Monopoli (William), Terry Keough (Lynne Watt), Michael Keough, Catherine Keough Ricard, and Valerie Keough (Gordon Snell), living in Ontario and New York.
Leo lived long enough to watch nine grandchildren grow into adults making their own ways in the world, and to hold three great-grandchildren, whose paths remain to be seen.
Cremation will be followed by a private family service of memorial and remembrance.
Donations in memory of Leo can be made to any veteran’s association which promotes, supports, and celebrates the service given by these brave men and women in securing our safety and freedom.
