JAMES ROBERT (RED) BURKE

JAMES ROBERT (RED) BURKE

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James Robert Burke (Red), 63 years of age of Tidnish Bridge on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.
Born in River Hebert, he was the son of the late Eugene and Joyce (Lorette) Burke. James worked at Elliott Amusements in his earlier years and went to Vocational school to become a licensed carpenter. James excelled in his career and worked up north for most of his life. James also spent a short time in Japan building homes. He worked on many projects with Sanakatiit. His last project was with NDL Construction Ltd., as site supervisor in Gjoa Haven, Nunavut.
Following his retirement, he began to build his dream "shack" that he was so proud of with the help of many friends, including Hector MacIntosh. James worked hard all his life and loved nature. Spending a day of fishing, in Shulie, as a young boy brought him much joy. He also
enjoyed going for rides in his truck and sharing stories, and just enjoying life in general. He had a love for music and would often reach out to let you know you were on his mind with a song or a lyric. James was a kind and generous man who loved to help out anyone when he could. He made many friends easily and always left an impact on the people he met throughout the years.
Left to mourn his passing are his daughter Breale Hokanak (Kugluktuk, NU); sister Elizabeth Burke (Kitchener, ON); special niece, Theresa Elliott and Aunt Eileen Chapman (Amherst NS), Stacey Burke (River Hebert NS) and his loving companion Muriel Berube (Winnipeg, MB), along with several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, James was predeceased by his brother Wayne, sister Theresa and uncle George Lorette.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst NS (902-667-8777). No visitation by request. A graveside service will be held in the Hillside Cemetery, River Hebert East at a later date. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting James' online memorial at www.jonesfamilyfuneralcentre.ca or through the Jones Family Funeral Centre's Facebook Page.
