Evelyn Blanche West

Evelyn Blanche West, of Northwood, Halifax, for the past 3 months, and previously the Berkeley, Dartmouth, and the city of Dartmouth, and formerly of Sydney, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2019 just 52 days short of her 97th birthday. Born in Sand Point, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, on May 27, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Clarence John and Hazel Feilda (Fraser) Carrigan.
She retired as a Seamstress from the Province of Nova Scotia in 1982. She was a member of Christ Church Parish, Dartmouth; Finley Club Seniors, and the Dartmouth Sportsplex. Her life has been an incredible ride and she enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, ceramics, dancing, playing cards, and always liked to keep an active life. In the past she especially enjoyed her annual trip to the Ancestral homestead in Sand Point with her sister Shirley.
She is survived by her son, Fraser and his wife Gerry, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Ann Marie West (Andy Ayers), Dallas, Texas and Brian (Lyuda), Norfolk, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Lily, Mackenzie, Alexa, Aidan and Avery; her sister, Shirley Williams (late Edward), Avon, Mass., USA; her sister-in-law, Marge Carrigan (late William), Canso, NS, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, John Harold West of Thorburn, NS in 1997; sister, Edith Hawkes; brothers, William and Leonard; brothers-in-law, Paul Hawkes and Edward Williams.
A special thanks to the support staff at both Northwood and the Berkeley for their care and consideration over the past number of years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cole Harbour Funeral Home, Dartmouth. At Evelyn’s request cremation has taken place. A private family Interment will be in Christ Church Cemetery at a later date.
