Isa Margaret Baker

Isa Margaret Baker

Date de décès : 4 avril 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother, age 95, on April 5, 2019. Mom was born in Ingonish on April 4, 1924, the daughter of the late Carl Jackson and Carrie (Roper) Jackson. Mom was raised in Ingonish and spent her early years on Ingonish Island where her father was the light house keeper. Mom moved to Sydney in the early forties when she met our father. After the war they moved to Westmount where they raised their family.
During World War II Mom started her volunteer work with the Canadian Red Cross, knitting for the soldiers overseas. Over the years she continued to knit for the family and in later years many bags of socks and mitts were donated to children in need. Besides knitting, Mom also enjoyed spending time with family, reading, embroidery work and crocheting.
Isa is survived by her children, Eleanor (Fred) Wolodka, Westmount, Kendall (Celeste), Glace Bay, Brian (Joan), Toronto, Lloyd and Gerald, Westmount. She is also survived by her sister, Lois; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her husband, Alfred; brothers, Cyril and Sid; daughter-in-law, Gloria; sisters-in-law, Ivy and Rose; brother in-law, Melvin Hardy; grandsons, Kevin Joseph and Jamie.
Mom had a quiet faith that she demonstrated throughout her life. She was a member of Westmount United Church and a lifetime member of UCW. She was involved with the Sunday School for more than 20 years and was also an Explorer leader.
At this time, we would like to thank Dr. Cohen for his many years caring for Mom, Tommy and Shirley Whent for their love and friendship and the staff at The Cove, for their care and kindness during the past three and a half years.
Visitation for Isa will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel Tuesday, April 9, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday, April 10 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating.
Family flowers only. Donations in Isa’s memory may be made to The Cove, Westmount United Church, or charity of your choice.
Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or email to sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
