MOSES, Eleanor - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Eleanor Eudora (nee Winter) Moses, of Halifax, age 86, on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the QEII Hospital in Halifax. Eleanor was born April 12, 1933, the daughter of the late Eugene and Rowena (Mullen) Winter and spent her youth growing up in Richmond, Yarmouth County. She is survived by her husband, Arden of 67 years; daughter, Darlene (Kevin); sons, Eugene (Jeanie) and Brian; granddaughters, Nicole and Amanda (Adam) and great-grandson, Baylan. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents; sister, Faylene and daughter-in-law, Marcy. Eleanor cared for the family and also became a tireless advocate for children with learning disabilities, rising to President of CAMR, which today is the Canadian Association for the Mentally Challenged. This soft-spoken, easy-going woman would not take one step backward in defending what she felt was right and just, for those who couldn’t speak for themselves. She was their Champion. Eleanor balanced home life and raising the children while working in the office at MT&T, all the while she continued her passion for volunteering - working with the Literacy Foundation. Later in life when the children moved out on their own she would join Arden in creating and running their joint venture called Alamo Investments, renovating and managing rental properties. They were hard workers and did so as a team. The last three years of her life were special. Eleanor fought her way through a devastating stroke in 2016 that set her back but did not take her spirit. The family believe these three years were a gift. We will forever be grateful for these last years. It afforded the family the time to realize what a gem we had and gave us the opportunity to celebrate, pay homage and appreciate her…just as we should at this time. We will miss her dearly, however, we do feel blessed and take great comfort that we had her so long. She loved-cared-shared unconditionally. Gone but never forgotten. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Monday, May 13, 2019 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel where the service followed. Burial took place at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, Rev. Michael Cannell officiated. Donations in memory may be made to Pleasant Valley Church Cemetery or RRSS in Dartmouth, NS. Online condolences may be sent to:sweenysfh@eastlink.ca or you may sign the guestbook on-line at:sweenysfuneralhome.net.
