It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of C. Eugene Smith age 69 of Nappan on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst surrounded by his loving family. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Hubert and Wilma (Cove) Smith. Eugene was a proud franchise owner of the Real Atlantic Superstore at the Pumps, Amherst for 13 years. Community minded, Eugene and Doris played Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus throughout the local area as well as active with the Boys Scouts of Canada for over 20 years. Eugene joined the Amherst Police Department each Halloween to assist with street patrol. He will be remembered for his kindness, big heart, unselfishness and always caring for others. Eugene will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Doris (Dixon); son, Matthew (Avis) Smith, River Hebert; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Miller; sisters, Helen (Karl) Taulien, Fredericton, NB; Gail Boon, Cranbrook, BC; brothers, Murray (Virginia) Smith, Toronto, ON and Dana Ring, Winnipeg, MB; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents, Eugene was predeceased by his sons, Rob Roy and Eugene Smith II; sister, Rella Neri; brother, Roland Smith. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst (902) 667-9906. A Celebration of Life will be held at his home and will be announced at a later date. Eugene’s family would like to express a sincere appreciation to all staff of the CRHCC, Palliative Care Unit for all their amazing care and respect for families going through such a difficult time. In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions in Eugene’s memory can be made to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Palliative Care Unit.
