Evelyn Gertrude (Little) Cameron, 90, of Digby, passed away peacefully at home June 27, 2011. Born April 28, 1921, in Lower Sackville, Evelyn a daughter of the late David Joseph and Gertrude (Verge) Little. Evelyn was raised in Bridgewater where her father owned and operated a florist and nursery. She married her husband, the late Donald H. Cameron and moved to Digby in 1950 where she owned and operated Cameron's Florist & Nursery for over 30 years. Evelyn was often seen delivering flowers in her 1966 pink Cadillac. She was the first female member of the Royal Western Nova Scotia Yacht Club, as well as the secretary for many years. Evelyn was a member and past president of the Digby Ladies Curling Club. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, she was in charge of the figure skating portion of the Digby Firemen's Ice Carnival for which she is noted on Digby's Wall of Fame. She was a member of the Admiral Digby Museum and Historical Society and was recognized by her peers in the Canadian floral trade, Flowers Canada, as an honorary lifetime member. Evelyn travelled in Europe, the Caribbean, the United States and Hawaii, as well as coast to coast in Canada. Evelyn is survived by her daughter Coleen (Terry Corcoran), Smith's Cove; companion, Charlie Theriault; sisters, Valleee ‘Queen’ Walker, Vaughn ‘Honey’ (Gilbert Langille), both of Bridgewater; Donna (Lowell) Acker, Rexdale, Ont.; brother, Lloyd, Brantford, Ont.; sister-in-law Vera Morgan, Digby; grandsons, Nicolas and Patrick Prieur, St. Hubert, Que.; step-grandsons Christopher Corcoran, St .Hubert, Que.; Michael Corcoran, Joliette, Que.; step-great-grandson Fernando Corcoran; and several special nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia, Alberta, and Ontario. Besides her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Donald; brothers, Harold, Everett, Douglas, Allen, David; and sisters, Florrie, Olive and Avenell. Funeral service took place June 30 in Jayne's Funeral Home, 7 Birch Street, Digby (245-2525). Pastor Mark Cress presided. Interment followed in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater.
