Peacefully at Bluewater Health, Sarnia, on Friday, July 15, 2011, Yvonne Patty (Metcalfe) Carr passed away at the age of 89.
Born in 1922, in Glace Bay, on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.
Youngest daughter to Albert and Violet Metcalfe.
Survived by her sister Betty Metcalfe of Sydney, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by her brothers John ‘Jack’ Metcalfe, and William ‘Bunce’ Metcalfe. Jack was a Veteran of D-Day who died in service. Bill was a Veteran of the Liberation of Italy and Holland.
She is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, including her niece Heather Almon in Sydney, Nova Scotia; and her cousins Beau Sabota and Marita Foulds of Toronto: and Elizabeth Banfield of Newfoundland.
Yvonne served as a CWAC (Canadian Women's Army Corps) during WWII. She met and married the late Lt. James Cameron Carr and settled in Sarnia, Ontario.
Yvonne and James have six children; Malcolm (Pauline), the late Alan (Pat); Samuel (Audrey); the late Dianne; Heather (Don); and Kathryn (Jamie).
She also has many grandchildren, great grandchildren. She was a dedicated and loving mother and a widow for many years. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 7 - 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Smith Funeral Home at 1 p.m.
Interment at Lakeview Cemetery.
