August 31, 1951 - August 28, 2011
It is with heavy hearts the family of the late June Marie Burton announce her passing at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in her 59th year after a brief and brave battle with cancer. June lived her complete life fulfilling others. Although no children of her own, she gave unconditional love to her parents, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, became a surrogate mother, a devoted sister, a favorite aunt and a trusting friend to all. She was a faithful member of both the Stephenville Lions and Lioness Clubs, giving herself fully to serve others through these wonderful charities. Darts was her passion, again giving herself fully holding executive positions with the Stephenville Ladies Dart League, Bay St. George Ladies Dart League, Western Ladies Dart League and the NF & Lab Ladies Dart League. June leaves to mourn her beloved father Wilson Burton with whom she resided her entire life; her brothers Edgar (Verna) of Corner Brook, Tom (Teresa) of Hamilton, ON, Dave (Linda) of Lower Sackville, NS, Paul (Barb) of Guelph, ON, Terry (Lorraine) of Port au Port West, Sean (Lori) of Kippens; her sisters: Colleen Stright of Lower Sackville, NS and Donna (Jerome) Pike of Stephenville. She also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews, especially her nephew Jamie (Alison) Burton of Wainwright, AB and her niece and godchild Jodi Pike of Stephenville who she mothered and grandmothered, aunts, countless cousins, faithful friends, fellow Lions and Lioness’, dart players. She was predeceased by her mom, Myrtle Burton in May 1992. Visitation will take place on Tuesday August 30th from 7-9 and Wednesday August 31st from 2-4 & 7-9. Funeral services will take place on Thursday Sept. 1st 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the United Church on St. Clare Avenue in Stephenville with interment in the Hillside interfaith cemetery on the Hansen Highway.
