Date de décès : 1er novembre 2011
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Elmer MacPhee of Glace Bay. Elmer passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Elmer was the son of the late Gordon and Marie (Young) MacPhee.
Elmer worked several years in the Glace Bay area at his trade as a boilermaker until his retirement and was a member of the Boilermaker’s Union Local 73.
Elmer’s most enjoyable times were those spent with his family and friends. He enjoyed cooking, his freezer was always full and when he cooked, he cooked in quantity, enabling him to share his meals with his extended family and friends. He loved walking his two dogs at his summer place at Mira Gut and teaching his parrot (Elvis) to talk. Elmer was an avid dart shooter for many years and was a great Elvis fan, collecting much Elvis memorabilia over the years.
Elmer will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Marguerite ‘Nettie’ (Bonnell), and their son, Greg, both of Glace Bay. Elmer will also be missed by his very special niece, Vanessa (Ersin) Tasdelen, who loved him as a father and her daughter, Marissa, who was “poppy’s” little girl; brothers, Gordie (Darlene), Glace Bay, Tony, Calgary, Alta.; sisters, Carol (Don) Kelly, Edmonton, Alta., Linda (Art) Williamson, Calgary, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Elmer was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Dunphy.
In honouring Elmer’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
Donations in Elmer’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
