Weir, Doris B. – Doris B. Weir of Saint John, New Brunswick, wife of the late Burton Garland Weir, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2011 at the Turnbull Nursing Home. Born in Beaconsfield, Nova Scotia on March 2, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Lansdale and Edith (Gesner) Hall. Doris was a dedicated school teacher in the Saint John area, specializing in remedial reading. Her long career began in Nova Scotia at age 17. She taught in a number of one-room schoolhouses in the Annapolis Valley. Following her marriage, she moved to New Brunswick where she opened a West Side kindergarten. Soon after, she taught at Loch Lomond School, and later King George, Alexandra, and Centennial Schools. Her generous, kind, and nurturing nature was beneficial to her students and all she knew. She was a Life Member of the Evelyn Gullison Women’s Missionary Society at Central Baptist Church. From the time she and her husband Burton arrived in Saint John, this was their church. She was loving and supportive of her immediate and extended family. She adored her grandsons and their children. Her spare time was occupied with quilting and baking. Doris is survived by her son, Russell Weir (Bonnie) of Pennfield, N. B.; grandsons Graeme Weir (Lisa) of Saint John and Christopher Weir (Shelley) of Saint John; great grandchildren Kennedy, Jackson, and Alexandria; and several nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her husband, Doris was predeceased by two brothers, Arnold Hall and Roy Hall; and an infant sister. The funeral service was held on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 12 noon at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Interment took place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, Saint John, N.B. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
