Ellen Gridley (Topham) Cleveland, 84, of Digby, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born in Natick, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Myra (Gridley) Topham. Ellen battled Alzheimer’s for 11 years with the support of her family. She was cherished by her husband, Tom, and even after she was placed under care in Tideview Terrace, he still spent his days with her. Aside from her husband, Ellen will be missed by her sons, Tommy (Becky), Grafton; Ben (Karen), Digby; John (Lori), Digby; daughters, Marsha (Carl ‘Sleepy’ Thomas), Halifax; Janice (Cliff) Hopper, Halifax; Meredith (Harold) Alexander, North Range; Carol (John) Drish, Halifax; grandchildren, James Hopper, Nathan, Jennifer, Liam Alexander, Megan Alexander, Rebecca, Bethany, Sarah, Brent, Katie, Molly Drish, Patrick Drish; great-granddaughter, Jenna Hopper; brother, Thomas (Nancy) Topham, Nadick, Mass.; sister, Ann Taylor, Yarmouth; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ellen was predeceased by her sister, Grace Linscott; and brother-in-law Eric Taylor. Cremation has taken place and at Ellen’s request there will be no service at this time.
