Kingston “Fitz” Fitzsimmons
Kingston Fitzsimmons passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the age of 90 years, beloved husband of the late Euphemia Fitzsimmons. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Dennis (Elaine) Fitzsimmons and Don Fitzsimmons; his granddaughters, Alissa Fitzsimmons and Tina (Ryan) Eide; two great grandchildren, Ryder and Kennedy as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his parents, Michael and Katherine Fitzsimmons; two brothers and one sister. Kingston was born on June 3, 1921 in Zeneta, Saskatchewan. He served in the R.C.A.F. “Ace Night Intruder “418" squadron”, from 1941 to 1946. Following the war he became an autobody man working at Central Motors in Moose Jaw from 1948 to 1967. He also played saxophone with the “Freddie Weiterman and Sons of Rhythm” dance band throughout the 50's who could also be heard on CKRM, CHAB radio and CKCK TV on the “Summer Show” every Friday night in 1956 and 1957. In 1967, “Fitz” started working at the Saskatchewan Technical Institute in Moose Jaw as an Autobody Instructor where he remained until retiring in 1984. He spent his retirement years in Moose Jaw and there he enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Following his wife’s passing in 2000 he moved to Medicine Hat to live with his son Dennis (Elaine) and their daughter Alissa. Together they enjoyed camping, feeding the birds in the backyard, and his little dogs. They also travelled throughout the U.S., B.C. and Saskatchewan. Most of all he loved Eagle Valley Campground at Maple Creek the best, spending many evenings sitting by the fire telling stories of the old horse and buggy days. A time of remembrance for Kingston will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion(268 High Street West) on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 12 noon - 3:00 p.m. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Good Samaritans c/o 550 Spruce Way SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1B 4P1.
