Florence Atkinson

ATKINSON, FLORENCE A. - 99, of Parrsboro passed away peacefully on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. She was a daughter of the late John and Maude (Neal) Hastings. Florence was born in Vancouver, but spent most of her early life in Amherst. She was a graduate in 1935 of Mount Allison University, Ladies College with a degree in music. After graduation, she moved to Parrsboro where she taught private piano lessons for many years. She was organist and choir director of Trinity United Church, Parrsboro for 50 years. She was a member of Trinity’s Friendly Group of Women, the Order of Eastern Star and the Lioness Club. She was faithful playing for many community musical events. She was an avid bingo, card player and loved to cook. She is survived by daughter, Lois Hebb (Lewis), Parrsboro; son, K. David Atkinson (Helene), Parrsboro; granddaughter, Bev Hebb-Wasson (Jim), Fall River; grandson, Rick Hebb (Nicolette), Dartmouth; great granddaughters, Kellyanne Hebb-Pretty, Raquel Wasson, Felicia Wasson; great-grandsons, Beau Wasson and Canaan Hebb; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Atkinson; a sister, Emily Havill; brothers, Fred and Jack Hastings; grandsons, Michael Hebb and Barry Hebb. Visitation will be held 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. on Thursday [April 26, 2012] at Trinity United Church, Parrsboro, where funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m., Keith Selwyn-Smith, DLM officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Reception will follow at Trinity United Church. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church, Parrsboro.
