It is with great sadness that the family of Doug Massie announce his death at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the age of 63. Born on June 13, 1949, he was raised in Cartwright, Labrador. Doug leaves behind his wife, Shirley of Burton, NB; sons, Dougie of Burton, NB and Steven (Jeannine) of Enfield, NS; grandson, Blake (his pride and joy) of Enfield, NS; brothers, Ian (Julie), Dave (Hannah), Don (Lou), all of Goose Bay, NL, Lloyd (Annette) of Havre-Saint-Pierre, QC, Rick (Joan) of Port Saunders, NL, Wayne (Anne) and Barry (Rita) of Goose Bay, NL; sister, Irene O'Mara of West Palm Beach, FL; and a large extended family. Doug was predeceased by his parents, David and Louisa (Allen) Massie; brother, Jim; sister, Debbie Hatton.Doug worked as a fire fighter at the Gander and Goose Bay airports in Newfoundland and was fire chief at the Fredericton Airport. In his spare time, he enjoyed looking after his apple trees, joking around with Dougie and Steven and playing with his grandson Blake.There was no public visitation. A memorial service was held at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, September 16th, 2012 at 2 pm. Rev. Robert McDowell officiated.
