Paul Thornton

THORNTON, PAUL VERNON - Paul V. Thornton of Nackawic, NB passed away November 9, 2012 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born at Millville, NB in 1927, he was a son of the late Ernest and Alberta (Scott) Thornton. Prior to his employment with St. Anne Pulp & Paper Co. Ltd, retiring in 1991, Paul was a construction heavy equipment operator as well as a Lineman for NB Power Commission. He was a charter member of the Granite Lodge No. 54, Temperance Vale, Woodstock Lodge No. 11, Woodstock Preceptory No. 41, Woodstock Chapter No. 8 R.A.M., Luxor Temple, Saint John, NB, U.S.J. R. Valley Shrine Club, Nackawic Golf Club and Nackawic X-Country Ski Club. Paul loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing and in his retirement years, spent many hours on the golf course. He also volunteered at the Fredericton Soup Kitchen and helped with many Stewardship activities of the Kirk United Church. Paul is survived by his wife, Maxine (Neilson) Thornton; two children, Bonnie Connors (Bob), Nackawic, NB and Dana Thornton (Anne), Waterville, NB; a sister, Juanita Cronkhite (Allen), Nackawic, NB; a daughter-in-law, Linda Thornton, Fredericton, NB; eight grandchildren, Todd Thornton (Sheena), Cory Thornton (Jocelyn), Ryan Thornton (Shannon), Chad Connors (Lori), David Connors (Floyd), Marcy Connors, Peter Thornton (Chase) and Paul Thornton (Emily); five great grandchildren; several nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Jimmy Thornton and a brother, Bill Thornton.
Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held on Monday evening at 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at Kirk United Church, Nackawic, NB on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jennifer Brown officiating. Interment at Otis Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Kirk United Church fellowship hall. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Ryan, Chad, David, Marcy, Peter and Paul.
