JONES, Donald James - 73, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013, at home. Born on February 25, 1939, in Berwick, he was the eldest son of the late James R. and Mildred M. (Kelley) Jones. Don had served in the Royal Canadian Army Reserves in his younger years and was a life member and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick, where he had been active for 54 years. He had received a certificate for 15 years of service with the Berwick and District Volunteer Fire Department. Don enjoyed reading the news, his junk mail as well as playing the lotto. He enjoyed playing cards and crib several nights a week with his companion, Barb Sheffield of New Minas. Surviving are his son, Philip (Pam) and grandchildren, Tasha and Jake, all of Edmonton, Alta.; daughter, Rosalie Jones and grandchildren, Laura and Mitchell Quail, all of Richmond Hill, Ont.; brothers, Russell and Greg, Berwick; Roger and Gary (Maria), Brampton, Ont.; sisters, Marjorie (Lester) Murphy, Windermere; Bonita (Warren) Nickerson, Cape Sable Island. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, John Paul; sister, Edith, partner of many years, Mary Baltzer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bryce Johnstone of DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service (902-538-8317). There was no visitation. Royal Canadian Legion and Funeral service took place at 2 p.m., Friday, January 18, in the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, 232 Main St., Berwick. Rev. Maya Bevan and R.C. Legion Branch Chaplain, Com. Amos “Bud” Ewing officiated, with burial in the Berwick Cemetery. Donations in Don's memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Poppy Fund.
