Saunders, Myrna Viola (Ogilvie) 96 years old passed away in Grand View Manor, Berwick, on January 28, 2013. She was born June 27, 1916 in Burlington, Kings Co., the daughter of the late Jacob & Viola (Ogilvie) Ogilvie. Myrna led a long exciting life. She had many siblings whom she adored & they all grew up in a rural life; one room school house, farm life, horse & wagon travel. She married had two children, Marina & Sylvia. Then her life drastically changed in the 50’s when she travelled to Toronto with her foster son, Gerald (Skip) Allen, so she could study nursing. She worked for a few years at a 1000 patient nursing home. She remarried to Les Saunders in 1959 & together they raised his two children, Julia Anne & Paul. Then one day a third child came into their lives. Terry was added to their numbers. Myrna loved children & baby sat & raised many of them right up until she was in her 80’s She did become that RPN while in Toronto & she loved nursing which led her to return with her family to Nova Scotia in 1967 to care for her father, Jacob, after he had a stroke. After several months of caring for him 24/7. Myrna & Les bought a house in Morristown & established & ran their own home known as ‘Saunders Rest Home’ It was a well respected home (1968-1979). When she retired, they sold their enterprise, but she didn’t rest long. Myrna & Les built another home in Burlington, where she was raising another baby that needed her, Debbie, a great niece, for a few years. Myrna & Les opened & ran a small store in part of their home in Burlington. She loved to quilt & she made some fine ones, I believe in excess of 200. So many people are kept warm from her endeavors. She gave a lot to a lot of people. She was loving, caring & had a great sense of humor. She was a very religious woman & spent many hours & gave of many of her talents; quilting, baking, special occasion cake decorating to support the Burlington Baptist Church. She was a member of the Burlington Women’s Institute. Myrna is survived by her husband, Leslie, Burlington; as well as children, Marina (Bob) Canesfield Hilden; Gerald Allen (Bird), Edmonton, Alta; Julia Macdonell, Greenwood; Paul (Deborah), Somerset; Terry (Susan), Mississauga, ON; many grandchildren & great grandchildren & great, great grandchildren; brothers, Calvin, Mirimichi, NB; Malcolm (Alice), Burlington; sister-in-law, Rita Ogilvie.
