Dr. Lloyd Beck MacLeod

Dr. Lloyd Beck MacLeod

Lloyd passed peacefully October 9, 2013, in his eighty third year, at the Palliative Care Unit, Prince Edward Home, together with his loving family.
Left to remember Lloyd are his children, Susan MacLeod (Marc Jesmer), Kathryn Coll (Charles) and David MacLeod; as well as his grandchildren, Charlie and Hailee Coll; his brother, George MacLeod; and sister, Phyllis (Sandy) Dawson.
Lloyd was predeceased by his wife, Audrey, and his infant son, Robert; his parents, Bruce and Myrtle MacLeod; and his siblings, Everett, Willard and Margaret.
Lloyd was born and raised in Grandview, P.E.I., and attended Prince of Wales College, MacDonald College, and Cornell University, where he received his PhD in Soil Science. Lloyd married Audrey Lawrence on August 20, 1955 and after residing in Amherst for several years, made their permanent home back in P.E.I.
Lloyd was perhaps best known as the Director of the Canada Agriculture Research Station in Charlottetown (1970-1990), however he also contributed significantly to the community as: President of the Charlottetown Rotary Club, co-founder of the Charlottetown Royalty Rotary Club, Chairman of the Eastern School District, Chair of the QE Hospital Foundation, Chair of the Potato Marketing Board, a founder of the men's and ladies Charlottetown Probus Club, and most recently, Chair of the Friends of the Farm. During his retirement Lloyd wrote and published a book entitled "The Way Things Were", which chronicled life on a P.E.I. farm during the depression and World War II.
Lloyd will be remembered for his quiet and loving nature, his strong sense of family and his commitment to the community.
The family would like to thank the staff of Andrews of Stratford, where Lloyd happily resided for the past four years. We would also like to thank Dr.'s Cabilo, White and Lecours as well as the nursing staff on Unit 2 for their recent care of Lloyd.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. Funeral Sunday from Park Royal United Church at 2 p.m. Interment in Sherwood Cemetery. If so desired, memorials to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Visiting hours to celebrate Lloyd's life will be on Saturday from 2-5 p.m.
Online condolences may be made at www.macleanfh.com.
