Shirley Smith
Passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital, with family by her side, at the age of 83. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Bill in December 2010. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jim (Elisabeth), Bud, Susan Mealing (Dean). Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Colin Coad (Kyleigh), Daniel Smith, Paul Mealing, Tyler Mealing, Megan Mealing, Aaron Mealing and Brendan Mealing; great-grandmother of Emma and Tristan Coad. She will be remembered by her sisters Gwen Kankowski, Audry Barnim and by her brothers Stan McLean (Joyce) and Bob Baker (Helen) all of Ontario and brother-in-law, Al Smith (Marie) of Calgary, AB, as well as many nieces and nephews. Shirley was born on August 19, 1930 in Peterborough, ON. At an early age, her family moved to Moose Jaw where she worked at the Woolen Mills. She met Bill in the early 1950’s and were married in 1952. They started their family by 1953 and raised their children in Moose Jaw. She worked at CanaDay’s Apparel Ltd until she suffered a back injury in 1980. Shirley took great pride in her home, especially her flower gardens. She enjoyed many crafts, baking, and birdwatching, but above all her passion was her family, particularly her grandchildren. Family gatherings were always a highlight when she enjoyed baking and cooking for her children and grandchildren. Friends and family are asked to gather in the Redpath Lounge at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St West, Moose Jaw, on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. for a 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service.
