It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Phyllis Meech on December 30, 2013 at Debert Court, Debert, Nova Scotia. Formerly of Lakeside, Nova Scotia Phyllis was born November 04, 1918 in New Annan. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Nina (Crowe) Roode. She is survived by her son Duane (Edna) Bigney; grandchildren Kevin (Tracy) Bigney, Christina (Jason) Lindsay, Melaney Bigney; great grandchildren Nathanael, Erin, Jesse, Joanna, Jack and Samuel, sister-in-law Marion Roode and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sister Sylvie Power, brothers Basil and Ervin Roode, husband Ernie Meech and ex-husband Lyman Bigney, two infant great grandsons, David and Stephen.
She lived in Lakeside most of her life, then for four years with her son and his family in Debert. For the last two years she has resided at Debert Court. She was a member of Faith Tabernacle in Halifax. She worked for Sears for 31 years. She was a lovely kindhearted lady. She was a strong independent woman. She loved animals of all kinds and she had a great laugh and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Debert Court especially those in Lancaster Court for their kindness, care and attention in the last two years.
A visitation will be held on Thursday January 2nd, 2014 from 1-2 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Atlantic Funeral Homes Sackville Chapel, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. The service will be officiated by Pastor John Shearouse. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Phyllis can be made to the SPCA or a charity of your choice.
