BABIN, Richard Marcel – 84, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Nakile Home for Special Care, Argyle. Born January 16, 1930 in Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, he was a son of the late Eloi and Anita (Bourque) Babin. Richard will be remembered by many as the custodian at École Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau High School, where he worked for 25 years. Previously, he had also worked with Eddie Babin as a crane operator for 18 years and with Kenney Construction for a few years prior to that. Richard enjoyed, and spent a great deal of his spare time in the outdoors, where he enjoyed logging, eel fishing, kiack fishing, and taking care of his small farm, he also enjoyed touring the community in his car. Richard loved music and enjoyed playing the guitar, had a great sense of humour and always had time for a good laugh and a good game of cards. He is survived by three daughters, Gisèle (Eric) Vacon, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau; Zoé (Ronnie) Hanson and Gaetane (Warren) Moulaison, both of Halifax, as well as a daughter-in-law, Darlene Babin, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau. Also surviving are grandchildren, Monique, Marcel, Jacqueline, Jeremy, Justine, André, Claude, Mathieu and Josée, as well as sisters, Augustine Surette, Lower Eel Brook; Paulette Surette, Louise Remigis and Antoinette Paradis, all of Hamilton, ON, and a brother, Paul (Helen) Babin, Lower Eel Brook, as well as many nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Josephine A. (Surette) Babin; a son, Hector Babin; siblings, Roland, in infancy, Prescille Babin, Annette Babin, Germaine Pothier, Jean-Louis Babin, Rosaline Smith and Yvonne Phelan. Visitation took place from 6 to 9 Tuesday evening, with prayers at 8 p.m., both at H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 19 at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Albeni d’Entremont officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Nakile Home for Special Care or to the Eel Brook and Districts Volunteer Fire Department in memory of Richard’s son, Hector.
