THOMAS, JOHN “JAY” JOSEPH - 1946 - 2014 - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John “Jay” Thomas of Haneytown at the DECH on July 14, 2014 at the age of 67. Jay was born on November 12, 1946 in Campbellton, NB, the son of the late John and Beryl (Bourne) Thomas. He is survived by his devoted partner Gina Vienneau; son Dean Thomas (Tricia) of Parkville, BC; daughter Yvonne Thomas-Kirby (David Garland) of Woodstock, ON; two step-sons Stephan (Ann) and Danny (Barb); grand-daughters Courtney, Madelyn and Abigail and eight step-grandchildren. He leaves behind a sister Janice Stonehouse (Raymond) of Huntingdon, QC; four brothers John Bourne (Brigit) of Germany, Peter Thomas (Judy) of Edmonton, AB, Wayne Thomas (Debbie) of Atikokan, ON, and Steven Thomas (Rita) of Burton, NB; two special nephews Kurt and Michael Thomas, along with many other nieces and nephews. Jay served in the military for 18 1/2 years. He was a member of Local 131 Association of Heat & Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Oromocto Branch #93 for 36 years. Jay’s grandchildren were his pride and joy. He enjoyed life, loved watching hockey and playing darts and golf.
There will be no visitation or reception as per Jay’s request. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church on Friday, July 18th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Peter Melanson as celebrant. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93 will be holding a tribute service at the mass. Interment will follow in the St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Oromocto SPCA or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online remembrances may be made at www.oromoctofh.com
