Family and friends on Prince Edward Island were saddened to learn of the passing of Verne Ross Howatt, on December 4, 2014 in Oshawa, Ontario at the age of 85 years. He leaves to mourn his daughter Geraldine (Bob) Gadsden, and sons David (Charleen) and Randall (Penny) Howatt, all of Ontario, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, step-sister Janice (Bill) Boyko of Cape Traverse, sisters-in law Verna (Wendell – deceased) Gillis of Streetsville, Ontario and Doris (Gordon – deceased) Trowsdale of Freeland and brother-in-law Wayne (Janice) Trowsdale of Bideford, PEI; also numerous nephews and nieces who have great memories of visiting Uncle Verne at his home in Frankford on the Trent Canal. Predeceased by his father, Arthur Ross Howatt of Ottawa, mother Nellie Theresa Read and step-father Glen Waddell of Cape Traverse, also by his wife Mary (Trowsdale) Howatt, son Philip Howatt, and grandson Leigh Gadsden, sisters Norma (Jack) Darrach and Marion MacKay and brother John Read Howatt, sister-in-law Helen (Hans) Arp, brothers-in-law Gordon and Clinton Trowsdale. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date in Ontario.
