Leah Connolly

CONNOLLY, LEAH IRENE - 89 - Dartmouth - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother Leah on December 17, 2014 in Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by family after a brief illness. Born in Upper Cape, NB, she was the youngest child of the late J. Herbert and Jeanette (Irvine) Rayworth. After graduating from Moncton High School in 1943, she worked for TCA (Air Canada) working in Moncton and Boston. While working for the airline, she met a fellow employee John, her future husband. Following their marriage in 1956, mom stayed home and devoted her life to raising her family. During Dad's years with the airline, the family transferred five times ending with the move to Dartmouth in 1973. Mom volunteered with the PTA, Dartmouth General Hospital, and the Canadian Cancer Society’s Reach to Recovery Program. She loved music, playing the piano, doing puzzles and knitting. Mom looked forward to visits to Big Pond and spending summers at the cottage at Cornwall Point spending time with friends and family. Mom was a True Lady, a loyal friend who believed in the importance of keeping in touch by phone or a written note. Thank you cards were a priority. Mom always welcomed company, both friends and family. She is survived by daughters Pam McIsaac, and Linda (Shaun) Sullivan, both of Dartmouth; son Brian of Moncton; her grandchildren whom she cherished, Geoff (Amy) and Connor (Emma) Sullivan, Allison and Emily McIsaac, and brother Lawrence Rayworth, Oakville, Ont. She is also survived my sisters-in-law, Louise Whitehead, Barbara Matheson, Ann Culligan, Eileen Gillis, Bette Connolly; brother in law Fr. Owen Connolly, many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. She was predeceased by husband John; sisters Jean and Helen; brothers Cedric and Gordon; sisters-in-law Sara, Isabelle, Elizabeth, Kaye, Mary; brothers-in-law Art, Larry, Ray, Joe, Paddy, Dennis and Pat.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, January 2 from 6 to 8 pm in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, January 3 at 10:00 am at Saint Peters Parish, 10 Maple St., Dartmouth. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens immediately following. All are welcome. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Thank you to the staff of Dartmouth General Hospital especially Arlene White RN for her strong advocacy for our Mother.
