Lillian Viau

VIAU, LILLIAN
Lillian Viau, 76, mother, teacher, rug hooker, gardener, story-teller, game player, book lover, Blue Jays fan and favourite aunt passed away on July 6, 2015 in Halifax. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late William Green and Florence (Moore) Green. She lived in and loved the community of St. Margaret’s Bay for over 50 years with her husband and best friend Omer Viau.
She is survived by Omer, her sister Barbara (Don) Craft, sons Paul (Cathy), Glen (Carol), Marc (Michelle), her cherished nieces and nephews and grandchildren Ryan, Alexis, Cleo, Jaden, Maya, Annabelle, Owen.
She was predeceased by sister Amy, brothers Bill, George, and Ronald.
She firmly believed in the oral tradition, and was happiest holding court at the head of the table, a glass of Omer’s white wine in hand, recounting funny, often highly-curated family tales. Her home and family resonated with her humour and sharp wit. She steadily and firmly championed decency and goodness starting with her students, and then with her boys, their friends, and then her grandchildren. She campaigned actively for the NDP, the Canadian Cancer Society, and the Bay Grandmothers. Her love of community is expressed in her many, many friends and connections. She and Omer loved to travel, and would always find occasion to visit her siblings, sons and friends when they landed in far-off places.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service Saturday, July 11th, at 10am at Ronald A Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggys Cove Rd, Upper Tantallon.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The Stephen Lewis Foundation, www.grandmotherscampaign.org
Online condolences can be made to www.rawalker.ca
