Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend died peacefully surrounded by family members on the beautiful misty Sunday morning of May 1, 2016. During his short battle with cancer he focused on his family and hopes.
Born July 23, 1939. He was predeceased by his parents, Rafaella (Giovannetti) and James Bennett of Dominion, N.S. and wife, Cecilia (McIsaac) Bennett.
He is survived by his loving wife, Johanna (Wallace) Bennett; his daughters, Melanie Ann Bennett (James Rathwell), Nancy (Charles) Muise, Lorraine (Lori) Griffin, Janice Griffin (Brian Bridgeo); his sons, Darcy (Marian) Bennett, Gerald Bennett; grandchildren, Sasha (Darren) Allen, Stephen Bennett (Caitlin Colquhoun), Katie Griffin, Zach Griffin, Darren Muise (Sarah Thornton), Jeanine Muise, Maria (David) Gorman, Adam (Rosie) Bridgeo, Jillian Griffin, Jeff Pitman, Jake Pitman and Kellina Pitman, Ashley Mason, Ryan Mason, Michaela Mason; and eight great-grandchildren.
He touched many lives and devoted his career to service the people of Canada through the RCMP for 36 years in both P.E.I. and Nova Scotia. He was honoured for his work, as he was the humble recipient of the Confederation Medal for Outstanding Service, Commendation of Exemplary Service, Recognition of Long Term Service to the RCMP and the Province of NS. He was a member of the RCMP Vets Association, Amateur Radio Association of Nova Scotia (VE1BPO) and St. Ambrose Cathedral. Arnie was the man who always had a “plan”. He had many interests and hobbies which included his devotion to the Catholic church, his T.H. coffee club, music, sweets, Friday’s lexicons and the Snuggle Inn. He was known as a “Good Man”; a gentleman to all from beginning to end. He had many friends and everyone thought well of Arnie.
Services are in trust of Sweeny’s Funeral home 567 Main St., Yarmouth, N.S. Visitation will take place Wednesday, May 4th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. A funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5th at St. Ambrose Cathedral, Albert St., Yarmouth with Fr. Henry Smolenaars officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gilles Boudreau & Friends Cancer Fund.
