Gerry Rose passed away peacefully after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Gerry moved to Ontario in the mid-seventies to study Journalism at Durham College. After more than a decade working as a reporter and city editor with the Oshawa Times, Gerry found his true passion when he returned to his alma mater to teach in 1991. His uncompromising style and ability to recognize talent resulted in a steady stream of excellent journalists passing through his classroom and newsroom. Gerry was a fun-loving and doting Papa to four grandchildren, Sophie, Keegan, Sam, and Adalyn, and a loving, patient, and endlessly supportive father. He is survived by his children, Melanie and Jeremy (Sherri), his brothers, Cyril, Clem, Bill and John, and predeceased by his sisters Marie Walsh and Vera Harte, and parents, Jeremiah and Sarah Rose. A celebration of Gerry's life will be held in the spring - date to be announced. The family requests that memorial donations go to the Gerald Rose Journalism Scholarship Fund at Durham College, or to a charity of your choice. Scholarship donations can be made by clicking on the donation tab at the top of the Durham College home page.
