Donald Hiltz Macomber, 80, of Marlboro, formerly of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007 at the Bolton Manor Nursing Home in Marlboro. Born in Maitland, N.S., he was the son of the late Calvin and Mildred (Hiltz) Macomber and husband to Shirlee (Cotter) Macomber. They were married 55 years. A Canadian citizen until immigrating to the United States in 1964, Donald served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War on the merchant ship “Empress.” He was a resident of Ashland, MA for 33 years and was employed with Ingersoll Rand in Walpole for 18 years. Mr. Macomber was a member of the Jack the Barber AA Group in Hopkinton, enjoyed square dancing with Fairs & Squares and was a parishioner at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hopkinton. In addition to his wife Shirlee, he is survived by one sister, Carrie Kitchen Turo, of Nova Scotia; five children; Deborah King and her husband Timothy of Ellsworth, ME; Calvin Macomber and his wife Marlaine of Horsehead, N.Y.; Alice Cohen and her husband Ron of Hopkinton, MA; Melene Campbell and her husband Lenny of Whitinsville, MA; and Donelda Turner and her husband Marty of Holden, MA; 11 grandchildren, Larry King and his wife Eve, Nancy Lemoine and her husband John; Jennifer King; Caroline, Sabrina, and Kendra Macomber; Adam and Bradley Cohen; and Brett, Carrie and Lexi Campbell; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hopkinton. Calling hours were held Saturday, Dec. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Matarese Funeral Home (www.mataresefuneral.com), 325 Main St. in Ashland.
