Fred Read Caudle, 74, Truro, passed away on June 20, 2007. Fred was hiking with a friend and pursuing his lifelong passion for all things outdoors. A lifelong resident of Truro, Fred was the son of the late Percy and Isabel Caudle. In his early years, Fred was a baker in the family business. In 1973, he joined the RCMP and was a member until his retirement in 1993. Throughout his life Fred was a dedicated member of many organizations including St John Ambulance, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Ham Radio Club, Truro Model Railroaders, and the Model Aircraft Association. He was a founding member of the Scotia Zone of the Canadian Ski Patrol. In 1971 he was a member of the Nova Scotia Canoe Team to the B.C. Centennial. He was a Scout leader for almost 50 years and was planning an outing in July. Since his retirement, Fred and Pat enjoyed travelling to many parts of the world and he especially enjoyed shared vacations in Cuba with his entire family. Left to mourn are his wife of 48 years, Patricia (Bigsby) and his son Glenn (Mary), Truro; his daughters Catherine (Glenn) Walter, Carlyle, Sask., and Gayle Turnbull, (Truro); five grandchildren Ryan, Jennifer, Gavin, Brandon and Jessica; sister Joan (Rev. Donald) Sutherland, River John and her family. Visitation will be held Sunday June 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 in Colchester Community Funeral. The celebration of his life will be held on Monday, June 25 at 2 p.m. at First United Church, 711 Prince St., where he was a lifelong member and served as an elder for 35 years. Memorial gifts may be made to First United Church, to the 2nd Truro Scout/Venturer trip to the Canadian Jamboree in July 2007 or any charity of your choice.
