Helen Jean Lindsay

PICTOU – Helen Jean Lindsay, 79, Pictou, passed away on Wednesday 16 April 2008, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, NS. Born on 3 February, 1929, in Chryston, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Henderson) Maddan. She studied education at Jordanhill College in Glasgow, Scotland, and worked as a teacher. She emigrated to Peru to marry then concentrated her energy and wisdom on her own family. She was an avid reader, knitter, Scottish country dancer and sports fan. She was a longstanding member of the Women’s Institute and Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. A private person, she will be remembered by many for her cooking, shortbread baking and the unstinting love and support she gave to her husband and children. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, William Andrew Lindsay, and brother, James Maddan. She will be fondly remembered by her daughters: Mary Rose (Paul Scrimshaw), Andrea (Tim Charles), and Rhona (Hans Schlottner); son, Angus; and sister, Isobel (Charles Donoghue) of Dundee, Scotland. Mamama will be sadly missed by her grandchildren: James, Christopher, Maximilian, Alexandra, and Raphael. The family will receive visitors from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 20 at the family home at 43 Cottage St, Pictou, NS. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the Pictou Women’s Institute or Pictou Public Library.
