James Seymour Lawyer

LAWYER, James Seymour -79, of Scotch Hill, Pictou County, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2007. Born in Washington, New Jersey, in 1928, he was a son of Maurice and Jenny Lawyer. After completing high school Jim travelled north where he studied at UNB. In 1952 he graduated in Forestry Engineering, returned home, and then went on to fight for two years in Korea. In 1954, Jim returned to Canada, where he worked as a forester for the Fraser Paper Co., Edmundston, N.B., and in 1965 he joined the Scott Paper Co., Abercrombie Point. In 1978, Jim became a proud Canadian citizen. In 1985, Jim retired and moved on to Burton New Brunswick, where he promptly became a member of the Fredericton Real Estate Board and Apple Growers Association. Jim, above all, really enjoyed being with people, he was an active volunteer who had a passion to play games, especially bridge. He was an outdoors man who loved camping, hunting, and fishing, along with photography and wood working. Jim was so very proud of his grandchildren: Michael, Amber, Laura, Lisa, Mandy, Jeffery, and Angela. He will be missed by many friends and relatives in Canada and the United States. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Elaine; daughters; Karen (Dave), Sarah (Jim); and sons; Ian (Brigitte), and Mark (Paulette); and brother; Maurice “Red” (Mary) Lawyer; along with numerous nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held on Monday, November 26, in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Memorial donations may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
