It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Bobby Kennedy on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Garfield and Lucy (Burke) Kennedy.
In his earlier years, Bobby was on the board for Community Involvement for the disabled. He worked at AVTC (NSCC Marconi Campus), before retiring due to his muscular dystrophy. In 2009 Bobby began overseeing the Walk for Muscular Dystrophy in Cape Breton. He worked hard to bring awareness to muscular dystrophy. In 2010 Bobby received the Mary Ann Wickman Award for volunteer of the year for the Atlantic Region.
Bobby is survived by his amazing wife, Mary (MacLennan) Kennedy; son, Michael Kennedy, at home.
He is also survived by his nine brothers, brothers, Tommy (Linda), Harry (Glenda), Sandy (Carol), Alvin (Mary), Donald (Cheryl), Leonard (Arlene), Stephen, Jamie and Jody (Sherry); three sisters, Elaine Covin (Stuart), Jackie Kennedy (Kenny) and Glenda (Billy) March, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Melissa Christina Kennedy, brother, Dennis Kennedy and his niece, Crystal Covin.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place 1 p.m., Friday, June 21, 2013, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Palliative Care Unit or to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
