It is with deep sadness that we, the family announce the passing of Gordon MacDonald on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Daniel and Mary (MacLean) MacDonald.
He was a life member of the Branch 126 legion, Westmount. He was past president and served on various committees and still was an active member until his illness.
Gordon was also a member and past commodore of the Dobson Yacht Club in Westmount. In his early years, he was employed with Lloyd MacDonald as a mechanic and later worked for Micronav until his retirement. Gordon enjoyed working on old trackers and antiques with his good friend, Claudette.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy MacDonald, Ontario; brothers, Jimmy, Sydney, John; sister, Carol (Basil), Sydney River; very special friend, Claudette Barnaby; nieces, Rosena, Catherine, Shauna and Erin; nephews, Roddie, Lonnie, Danny, Martin.
Besides his parents, Gordon was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Fraser, second wife, Jessie MacDonald, daughter, Heather, sister, Jean Musgrave and a son in infancy.
Visitation took place Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
