MACCAUSLAND, DONALD IRVING The death of Donald I. MacCausland occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Saturday, December 7, 2002. Donald was of 662 Charlotte Street, Fredericton and he died peacefully in his sleep of complications from a long and valiant struggle with rheumatoid arthritis. Born in Tyne Valley, PEI on September 13, 1923, he was the son of the late Laura (Ramsay) and Daniel MacCausland of Marysville. He was a pension administration officer for the Province of New Brunswick for 35 years and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 in Fredericton. Don was a champion cribbage player but most of all, a talented piano player. He was well-known in the Fredericton area for his musical gift. He played piano over the years at one time or another with many local musicians, including the late Earl Mitton, the late Les Brooks, Ron Goodine and Wayne Nightingale. In recent years he and his musical partner, Gary Acheson played piano and saxaphone at weddings, dances and social events as the "Don and Gary Duo." He especially love the "Big Band" sound and the old standards. Music was his life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Marjorie; his daughter, Debra Allik-Petersenn (Peter) of Kamloops, British Columbia; one sister-in-law, Elva MacCausland; two nephews, Steve MacCausland and Keith MacCausland (Lorraine), all of Fredericton; two nieces, Jane Boucher (Ronald) of Bathurst, NB and Donna Taylor (Tom) of Katy, Texas; cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents and by his three brothers, Waldo, S. Winston and William. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Monday, December 9th, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 4 holding a tribute service at 7 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 10th, 2002 at 2:00 pm at the Christ Church Cathedral. The Very Rev. Keith Joyce officiating. Interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Lord Beaverbrook Hotel. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes made to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated. www.mcadamsfh.com
