SHANKS, JOAN FAYE (MCCANN) The death of Joan Faye (McCann) Shanks of Douglas, NB, wife of Brien Shanks occurred on Thursday, May 27, 2004 following a courageous battle with cancer at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Born in Fredericton, NB, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Hanson) McCann. Prior to her retirement as a home maker, Mrs. Shanks was employed as a Veterinary Assistant and was later a SPCA superintendent for the province of New Brunswick. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Kim MacKay (Mark Kenny) and Janet Van Stone (Bruce) both of Fredericton; one step-son, Michael Shanks of Geary; two step-daughters, Heidi Shanks of Geary and Lorelie McPherson (Brian) of Moncton; one grandson, Tyler; one stepgranddaughter Holly; two sisters, Betty Tucker (Jim) of Terra Cotta, ON and Judith Harris (Ervil) of Woodstock, NB; several nieces and nephews; and she will be dearly missed by her cat Pandy. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by an uncle, Gregory McCann. A Cremation Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 31st, 2004 at 11 am from St John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Main Street, Fredericton, with Rev. John Cathcart officiating. Interment will be held in the St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church Cemetery.
