EDITH HARPER

HARPER, EDITH Edith Harper, wife of the late Donal Harper, passed away gracefully at Fredericton DVA Veterans' Residence on August 27th, 2004. Born in Stanley, NB in 1916, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Winnifred (Mullin) Biggs. She is survived by four children; Rosemary Gillard (Hugh), of Calgary, John D. Harper (Bendy Tingley) of Fredericton and Duncan and Charlotte, both of Halifax; two granddaughters, Tracey von Dehn (Nicolas) of Kamloops and Heather Feeney of Squamish, BC; three great grandchildren, Alexander, Sophie and Sterling von Dehn; and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Edith was predeceased by two sisters Helen and Jessie and three brothers, Howard, Grant and Harold. Edith attended Fredericton city schools, graduated Saint John High School, attended UNB in Fredericton and graduated Saint John General Hospital Nursing School in 1940. She worked on the staff of the Western Division of the Montreal General Hospital until she joined the Royal Canadian Medical Corps in 1942, was stationed at Sussex Military Hospital, subsequently going overseas with #12 Canadian General Hospital R.C.A.M.C. After serving in England, she went on to France and Belgium with #12 C.G.H. In early 1945 she transferred to the #5 Casualty Clearing Station, R.C.A.M.C. in Holland. Edith and Donal married in June 1945 at Amersfoort in Holland. She entered the real estate business in Fredericton in 1956 eventually establishing her own agency from which she retired in 1976. She was held in high regard for her strong business ethics and integrity. In all realms of her life, Edith was known for her humour, kindness and generosity. She had enduring elegance and style. She touched the lives of all who knew her and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. There will be no visitation by request. Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at Wilmot United Church, on the corner of King and Carleton Street, Fredericton on Tuesday, August 31st, 2004 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Bob Jones will officiate. A private family interment will follow in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice or to the Fredericton DVA "Wheels for Veterans" fund McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. www.mcadamsfh.com
