Margaret Ellen Aikens

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Margaret Aikens, 84, of the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, and formerly of Durham, who passed away July 2, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Middleton, England, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Ruby (Ringwood) Smith. Peggy served with the British Army during the Second World War where she met and married Ossie before coming to Canada. She is survived by husband, Oswald Aikens, Pictou; daughters, Margaret (Stephen) Cameron and Sheila Campbell both of New Glasgow; brother, Michael Smith, Leiston, England; grandsons, Stephen Cameron, Lower Barney’s River; Dwayne Cameron, Yarmouth; Ozzy Campbell, Durham; great-grandchildren: Brock, Colton, John, Rachael and Kaylee. She was predeceased by brothers, Reginald and David, and sister, Gladis. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday from West River Presbyterian Church, Durham, with Rev. Barb Fotheringham officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the Northumberland Veterans Wing Bus Fund or a charity of choice
