COBURN, DONALD W. On September 26, 2004, Donald W. Coburn, husband of Cora E.(Coughlan) Coburn of Keswick Ridge, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. A son of the late Fred and Julia (Buchanan) Coburn, Donald, a well respected citizen of Keswick Ridge, lived out his lifetime in the farmhouse where he was born in 1915. Donald was a graduate of Keswick Ridge Superior School and attended Nova Scotia Agricultural College. He was an ardent amateur genealogist and self-taught historian. He was a member of the Genealogical Society, Historical Society, Golden Toastmasters Club and was a charter member of Douglas Field Breeding Unit, and the Keswick Islands Land Owners Association. Donald was Director of the NB Apple Exchange, Director of the Keswick Ridge Apple Co-op, and a charter member and on the Board of Directors of Klearbright Farms. He was always active in the NB Fruit Growers Association and was delegate to the Canadian Horticultural Council in Ottawa. In 1980, Donald was awarded an Honorary Life Membership for his contribution to the Fruit Growing Industry. He was also awarded a Life Membership of the Federation of Agriculture in 1995. Mr.Coburn was a charter member of the Keswick Credit Union, on the board of the Capital Credit Union, board member of the Capital Co-op and Director of Co-op Atlantic. Mr. Coburn was actively involved with the Keswick Ridge Community Hall and was generous in supporting community activities and groups. Donald will be sadly missed by his wife, Cora E. (Coughlan) Coburn, four step-children; six step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Jessica Robinson of Keswick Ridge, N.B.; Grace Fraser of Charlottetown, P.E.I.; and nieces and nephews. Mr. Coburn is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Julia (Buchanan) Coburn; one sister, Elizabeth and his first wife Isabel (Adams) Coburn. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 28th from 6-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held at the Mactaquac United Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 29th, 2004 at 2 pm with Rev. Eldon Hicks and Pastor Roger Urquhart officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be: Wade Prest, Elbridge Gilmore, David Coburn, Vincent Gilmore, Daryl Hunter and Ben Gilmore. Honorary Pallbearers include: Horace Clark, Gerald Reed, Byron Gordon, Joseph Howland, Robert Sloat, Eldred Love, Fred Kelly, Russell Phillips, Sterling Gilmore, Albert Gordon, Andy McCullough and Johnson Sargent. Interment will follow at the Pickard- Merrithew Cemetery, Keswick, NB. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Julia Buchanan Coburn Scholarship Fund or to the Isabel Adams Coburn Scholarship Fund and would be appreciated by the family.
