ABBOTT, DONOVAN WILLIAM The death of Donovan William Abbott of Fredericton, NB, occurred unexpectedly at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Monday, February 28th, 2005. Donovan is survived by his loving wife Jennifer (nee Prain) Abbott; his three loving children, Hadrian, Kenrick (Patty Ross) and Vanessa Kelly (Bryan); two sisters, Jennifer Taylor (Peter) and Suzette Klafter (David). He was predeceased by his parents, William E.H. Abbott and Mimi (nee Moolman) Abbott, and one brother, Roy Abbott. Donovan was born in South Africa and received his doctorate at Manchester University. He immigrated to Canada in 1964 and assumed the role as Head of Mineralogy at RPC (Research and Productivity Council) in Fredericton. Donovan was an active volunteer with The Transition House, The Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, The York Manor Nursing Home, The Fredericton Institute for Christian Studies, Campus Ministry at UNB, the Fredericton Emergency Shelter, and a board member of Scouts Canada. He was a founding and active member of the Forest Hill United Church, and very much enjoyed canoeing, hiking, travel, and carving as a juried member of the NB Craft Council. There will be no visitation by family request. A memorial service will take place at Forest Hill United Church (Kimble Court, off Forest Hill Road) on Friday, March 4th, 2005 at 3:00 PM with The Rev. Meredith Fraser officiating assisted by The Ven. Patricia Drummond. A reception will take place at the church immediately following the service. At the request of the family, no flowers please; instead memorial tributes may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Forest Hill United Church, The York Manor Nursing Home or a charity of the donor's choice.
