GENEVIEVE HAIMILA HOLLAND

HOLLAND, GENEVIEVE HAIMILA Genevieve Haimila Holland of Fredericton and formerly of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2006, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. Born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, on March 14, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Frances (nee Antonelli) and Armas Haimila. Genevieve graduated from St. Mary's of the Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana, with a degree in Fine Arts. After graduation, she studied weaving in Ireland for a year. Upon moving to Fredericton with her husband, she graduated from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design with a major in weaving. Genevieve was an artist who enjoyed the beauty of nature, particularly along the coastline. In recent years, Genevieve explored her love of the culinary arts by taking cooking classes. She and her husband also enjoyed visiting the many fine, small restaurants tucked into natural settings in New Brunswick, PEI and Newfoundland. Genevieve worked for the past thirty years at the University of New Brunswick library in Fredericton. She is survived by her husband, Harold Holland; two sisters, Sandra Haimila (Carty) of Thomaston, Maine, and Paula Levy of Bethesda, Maryland; two brothers-in-law, one niece and three nephews. A family memorial service will be held later in the spring. Remembrances may be made to the charity of donors' choice or the Canadian Cancer Society.
