Mildred J. (Minnie) Bakken nee Carlson. Minnie was born August 1, 1923 and passed away peacefully, at her home in Springfield, Oregon on May 16, 2008. She grew up in the Galilee area of Saskatchewan and attended Sugar Loaf School near Galilee. Minnie joined and served in the RCAF first in Caron, Saskatchewan and later in Abbotsford, BC, where she met Sig Bakken. Minnie and Sig were married in 1946 and lived in the Kootenay area of BC and Vancouver, BC before moving to Springfield, Oregon in 1959. Minnie was employed by the Springfield area school system food services department and for many years the staff and students enjoyed Minnie's cooking skills. For over 60 years of married life Minnie and Sig tended a garden rich in flowers and vegetables sharing the bounty with friends and relatives. Many relatives and friends visiting from Canada and Norway were entertained in their home over the years. Minnie was predeceased by her husband Sig in 2007, their daughter Janet in 2001, sister Inga (Eldon) Comstock, brothers Edward (Edith) Carlson, Alfred (Dorothy) Carlson and Ole Carlson. Minnie is survived by brothers-in-law Allan (Betty) Bakken, Jim (Ann) Bakken, David (Mabel) Dakin, sisters-in-law Olga, Ruby and Molly Bakken and many nieces and nephews in Canada and Norway. There was no service at Minnie's request.
